Feel Good Day

We all have them,  Days that are typically reserved for what we need to get done, that we just take and do for others.  This was our church trip to a nearby orphanage where we went to work on their landscaping.  It felt good to be outdoors working instead of scrubbing floors and bathrooms in our house on another Saturday.  I had a great time.

The papers are fom My Minds Eye.  I decided to free hand thsi scrap and try out my Martha Stewart Punch Over the Page Scalloped punch.  I wanted to create pockets that the roses were to be nested in to create the border.  I free hand cut the edging in a wavy look then punch the center of each rounded edge.  I topped it with lace and then tucked more lace under the wave, which is crooked in this picture, but now fixed.   The title seemed to be floating, so I put washi tape between it and the picture to anchor it to the layout.  To give the design more flow, I filled the L-shape to the bottom of the page by adding a journaling square and another rose topped on a lace flower and a subtle inked die cut in a shape that reflected the punch, but not identical.  It still needed something so I made another rose and taped yarn across the top for a subtle enclosure to the page.

Proud Parents of the Graduate

My Niece was the last of three to be put through college for my Brother.  She is now getting her Masters.  I can definitelys ee where her parents are seeing the end of the tunnel.

I am focusing on design and after viewing this, I see several things that keep this from being a great scrap.  They are all muted and therefore blend where the accents aren't highlighted.  The frame may be too dark.  I hope to redo this layout and post the results of what I think went wrong in a later post.  I used the Echo Park Sweet Day Papers and Accents that you can print from JessicaSprague's site.
